10 Amazing Health Benefits of Turmeric

Health Benefits of Turmeric

Many people have heard of Turmeric but do not know all the amazing health benefits of Turmeric. About 10 years back I watched a Show on DVD called “Dying to Have Known.” It discussed the Gershon Therapy and how thru natural foods and processes the average person can cure Cancer themselves without the medical and pharmaceutical establishment of poison drugs and more.

Through documented cases, this film explores people who were diagnosed with various types of this deadly disease, but somehow beat it thru the Gershon Therapy. In the end, it does leave it up to you the viewer to decide its validities. I’m not here to support or debate this therapy and movie, that’s another discussion for a different time. It’s something that everyone should watch and make their own decision on.

What it did and what this article is about is so much more for someone otherwise looking to stay healthy. It sent me on a journey and odyssey to find more healthy and natural ways to maintain and continue to stay and live healthier. Natural supplements were a primary focus. You know the stuff given to us from God’s beautiful green earth. And while today I take several healthy and natural supplements, I’ve found one that has so many wonderful healing properties called Turmeric.

In this article we’ll talk about Turmeric and the wonderful health benefits it gives you, your health, and your body. Let’s get to it!

benefits of turmeric

1. Natural Medicinal Elements in this Orange stuff!

We’re going to talk a lot more in this article about these, but Turmeric contains proven and potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, antimicrobial, and anticancer agents in its profile. It’s the main reason that I decided to start to consume it regularly. Why wouldn’t you want to use a natural God-made supplement to help you stay healthy day in and day out? Other areas of benefit include its effect on Crohn’s disease, depression, diabetes, joint pain, and even irritable bowel syndrome.

Everyone fears the C-word these days. It seems like wherever you turn, you know someone in your inner circle of friends, family members, and co-workers who have had or are currently battling a war with Cancer. In cultures and countries where Turmeric is regularly used you see cancer rates much lower than that of the United States. While we still have a long way to go in this country to lower Cancer rates, Turmeric is a great step in the right direction when used as a possible prophylactic with daily use.

Consumption too can be easy, a scoop or two in your daily drink or shake, a shot glass worth, used in the cooking of your meals, or even in simple pill form, Turmeric can be taken in many different forms very easily. Plus, it’s easily digestible by the body, which I can personally attest to. Occasionally I may taste it again later in a burp, but that’s so trivial and minor when comparing its profile of great benefits medicinally.

2. It has Anti-Inflammatory Properties!

As previously mentioned, Turmeric can help and often minimize any inflammatory state in the body. Turmeric’s main active component — Curcumin — is what gives the spice its yellow hue. Curcumin often helps reduce and minimize inflammation, making it a potential treatment for several health conditions, including reduced pain, and increased ease of movement in people with many forms of arthritis.

Some studies have even shown that taking Turmeric extract three times daily was comparable to taking a 1,200-milligram dose of ibuprofen, often used to treat pain and inflammation. For me, another reason I choose to use turmeric is that it helps with IBD, better known as Inflammatory Bowel Disease, which I have in the form of Ulcerative Colitis. Turmeric has been known to help patients like me stay in remission when it comes to Ulcerative Colitis Fare-ups. It may not necessarily put me into remission during an active flare-up, but it will help keep me flare-free when not in one when taken regularly with my diet. I strongly believe that, having used it now for over a decade.

3. Helps the Body’s Capacity for Antioxidants

Curcumin has many powerful antioxidant effects. It neutralizes free radicals, which are unstable atoms that damage our cells causing aging and disease, on its own, then stimulates the body’s antioxidant enzymes.

Essentially, Curcumin delivers a one-two punch against free radicals in your body, which is where we all live right. I mean the idea alone that it can help with aging and slowing down that process is so exciting and encouraging all on its own.

4. Improves the Noggin aka Brain function and lowers risk for disease

Have you ever heard of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor? LOL, probably not right? It’s a mouthful and doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue right. Known as BDNF, it’s integral for a healthy brain and so important for good healthy brain functionality.

Turmeric, specifically the Curcumin found in Turmeric, can increase the levels of BDNF and can play an essential role in feeding the brain a healthy dose of brain food. By using Turmeric daily it can be effective in delaying or reversing brain issues while restoring many natural brain functions.

While Alzheimer’s disease is the most well-known of all brain diseases, Turmeric may help reduce the chance of ever getting it. It can help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the brain which in turn is often a leading factor to brain disease and Alzheimer’s. Yep, just another reason why Turmeric and Curcumin are such a great supplement for the old Noggin!

5. Helpful for the Ticker – Reduces the chance of heart disease

Did you know that heart disease is the worlds leading cause of death? Yes, unfortunately, more people we know in our everyday lives are dying from problems related to the heart. While there are many contributing factors to issues related to the heart, Turmeric and Curcumin have been known to be helpful with many of these heart-related issues.

So what does it exactly do for your ticker aka heart? The Curcumin found in Turmeric increases the function of the membranes that line the heart and the surrounding blood vessels. In turn, your blood pressure is better regulated for healthier heart function.

Turmeric has also been proven effective in helping people with Type 2 diabetes.

6. Has Cancer-fighting agents – reduces risk

And now the main reason I take Turmeric every day without ever missing a dose! Research into Turmeric suggests Curcumin can aid in the prevention of Cancer! I mean how exciting it’s that! No matter where you turn these days we all hear stories of those suffering from this horrible and debilitating disease called cancer. It’s the most horrible of all illnesses, so why not give a natural supplement that’s cheap and readily available a serious look.

The research mentioned above focused on Curcumin as a beneficial herb in cancer treatment and prevention. It can affect cancers growth by developmentally preventing its spread at a molecular level. The studies showed it can inhibit the growth of active tumors, hence stopping the spread of said cancer. I mean that’s so exciting for something available over the counter and often found at your local grocer and health food stores.

When used as a preventative measure, Turmeric can also reduce and lower the chance of cancer in people, especially those with a high risk. With evidential proof from cancer even forming in high-risk populations, why wouldn’t you use it for this reason alone!

7. Lowers chance for Neuro based diseases. Can Turmeric help prevent them?

As discussed above, Turmeric can indeed help lower the risk of many Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. With no current cure for Alzheimer’s, it becomes more about doing things today to help in regards to prevention. What’s more important than protecting yourself for the future and your golden year right?

Alzheimer’s in layman’s terms is caused by an abundance of bad proteins in and around the brain cells. This causes the degeneration of brain function that we often see in Alzheimer’s patients. Our loved ones are a shell of themselves without proper brain health. Taking Turmeric and the Curcumin found in it can help these proteins from forming by acting as a much-needed protector from this disease.

8. Helps with arthritis and associated related inflammation.

Another complication many suffer from is Arthritis. While normally not deadly like some of the ailments we spoke about above, Arthritis can still be very painful and debilitating. Turmeric has helped treat symptoms of arthritis and even in some instances and cases been effective in reducing the inflammation often present in arthritis.

Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, Turmeric aka Curcumin is being looked at closely as a safe and very effective treatment for rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. So for those of us who are taking it strictly for prevention, I’m excited to see as I age if possibly this ailment of the older generation can be minimized or reduced to none at all. Here’s hoping!

As we all age, we hope and pray they are filled with grandkids and happiness. Growing old is a gift and I want to be pain-free. It’s another reason that Turmeric is part of my daily regimen.

9. Brainfood – Boosts Dopamine and Serotonin and makes you feel good.

Dopamine and Serotonin are what I call “feel-good” drugs for the brain. These are commonly released in the head and brain and cause us to be happy and feel good. Being a proponent and active health enthusiast I’ve found thru research that these drugs are released even more when your exercise. It’s why after a good workout you often feel so happy and good.

Turmeric and Curcumin enhance and can help increase the level of these two BDNF drugs. They’re both also known for their active role in the development and maintenance of the central nervous system so closely related to the brain itself.

So let’s have a great party in your head and release these feel-good drugs. Turmeric can help with this!!

10. Fountain of Youth – Can slow down aging!

And finally, would you drink from the “fountain of youth” if one such existed? Being able to slow down aging to where you’re healthy and active enough to be able to be present in all of life’s wonderful moments is such a great thought right?

Turmeric can help with this with its anti-aging properties. It can actually help with our longevity. How does this work exactly? Well here’s where it can get a little nerdy. On the cellular level, Curcumin raises the movement of some anti-aging proteins (good proteins) and inhibits the pro-aging ones. So in essence Turmeric encourages optimum body functionality while Curcumin delays aging!

So if ya want to see all of life’s milestone moments, here’s another reason to give Turmeric a chance!

The Final Word on the Health Benefits of Turmeric

Alright, so what’s the final word on Turmeric and Curcumin? Will it save you from ever experiencing any of the ailments and illnesses that we mentioned above? The short answer is no it won’t, nothing out there will. Can it though reduce the chances of ever dealing with the ailments and illnesses mentioned above, while also improving your overall health? I believe the answer to this is Yes! And improving my overall health, to be honest is all I was ever looking to do over a decade ago when I started searching for ways to be here for as long as possible.

Turmeric for me represents an opportunity to give my body the best possible care and gives me the chance to lead the lifestyle I strive for. As more and more research is done on this wonderful supplement, we all need to make sure we are still doing other things to stay healthy such as working out, eating right as much as possible, and getting a good night’s sleep. Turmeric, after all, is just one cog in the wheel of overall good health. It’s not a cure-all or miracle, but when combined with other health measures stated above, can give you so many great healthy years ahead to live life on your terms.
