The 90/10 Approach to Nutrition might just be the secret weapon you need for healthy living. Getting in shape is not just running on a treadmill, taking long walks, or lifting weights! Yes, those are all key components of it, but real results come from what you fuel yourself with daily on your weight loss journey! Real results really come in the kitchen and that’s where I’d like to talk about my 90/10 approach to Nutrition.

What Foods are in the 90/10 approach to Nutrition?

Fuel from these 6 key areas is essential to complementing those Pilates routines, weight lifting sessions,  or long Yoga hours…..

Why primarily from these 6 areas? 

If you’re choosing foods from these areas, your weight loss and fitness goals will accelerate 10 fold as you change your life and health for the better!

Eating like this 100% of the time, however, is unrealistic for most people and not very practical. Those of us with families and busy lifestyles that revolve around soccer tournaments, dance competitions, and weekends away with the family at the Waterpark have to find a happy medium without totally derailing our goals!

This is where the 90/10 approach to nutrition or sometimes even 80/20 approach to nutrition is important and more practical for the regular Joe and Jill.  So what does this approach look like?  It means that 90% of the time you key in on those healthy 6 areas mentioned above and 10% of the time you enjoy some of the forbidden foods you aimed to give up on your health journey.  To make it easy it’s like 2 cheat meals a week.  Remember 10% vs what you were doing at practically 100% is still going to yield great results!

Don’t Beat Yourself up when you’re Not Perfect.

So give yourself a break and permission to enjoy life and special moments with your family.  Staying true to your fitness journey is important absolutely, but so is living in the moment sometimes with family and enjoying that Mickey Bar when you go to Disney World!  

Before you know it you’ve hit your fitness goals, and this 90/10 approach to nutrition is now a fixed part of your life.  It’s now part of your new routine, and you’ve trained your mind to this way of nutritional life!!  You got this!!!
